After his UFC 310 win over Kai Asakura, Flyweight Champion Alexandre Pantoja called out Demetrious Johnson, urging him to come out of retirement for a legacy-defining battle. However, Demetrious Johnson’s response was reasonable—he declined the callout.
Johnson has accomplished everything there is to achieve in the sport and is aware of the toll age takes. He’s wise not to let pride lead to his downfall, as has happened to other greats. That’s what it means to have nothing left to prove, and everyone knows it. Mighty Mouse remains the GOAT.
Still, a part of me can’t stop wondering about how their records compare. It’s a debate I’d love to have with my fellow MMA fans—who is the best and who has the better records. So, let’s dive into the comparison.
Let’s start with a physical comparison

Pantoja, on the other hand, made his UFC debut on January 29, 2017, at the age of 26 years, 9 months, and 13 days.
Both fighters come from a similar fighting background in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Demetrious Johnson holds a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, as does Pantoja.
Pantoja has a slight advantage with a 67-inch reach compared to Johnson’s 66 inches. Additionally, Pantoja leads in leg reach with 67 inches, just one inch longer than Johnson’s 66 inches.
