From Schoolyard Sprints to Stats Guru: My Journey into MMA Obsession

Imagine a scrawny kid in Coimbatore, India, tearing up the schoolyard in athletics competitions in 2004. That kid was me, Vignesh Subramanian, and that early love of competition would ignite a lifelong passion for sports.

Fast forward to 2012, and the meteoric rise of Conor McGregor in the UFC had me glued to the screen. His double-champ status was like a knockout punch, sparking a full-blown addiction to all things MMA.

Google of fight stats

One epic YouTube battle – Jon Jones vs. Alexander Gustafsson – sent me down a rabbit hole of Jon Jones highlights, solidifying my fandom for the legendary fighter. Since then, I haven’t missed a single UFC match, becoming a walking encyclopedia of fight stats. Who’s the GOAT? Khabib or Jones? Weight classes aside, I dove headfirst into analyzing their stats, opponents, and consistency, formulating my own verdict on this MMA debate.

Building the Ultimate MMA Stats Fight Club: A UFC Nerd’s Mission

Being a computer science grad, this data obsession had to find an outlet. Enter sportzonly.com, my brainchild – an MMA comparison page where fight fans can settle the score between their favorite fighters, regardless of weight class.

From dissecting the top 10 contenders in each division to churning out blog posts packed with insights, I’ve devoted over 9 years to learning how to break down the fighting styles of each fighter.

Today, I proudly wear the badge of “UFC nerd” and “stats guru.”  Just don’t ask me to predict the future – but when it comes to analyzing styles, moves, and strategies, I can break down a fight plan with high accuracy and a healthy dose of neutrality.
