The most intimidating knockout artist in the combat sports, Francis Ngannou, is a Cameroonian-French mixed martial artist.
The former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in the heavyweight division, since March 2021, after defeating Stipe Miocic in UFC 260.
Ngannou is known for his formidable striking power and holds the world record for the most powerful punch, with a punch equivalent to 96 horsepower, which is equal to getting hit by a Ford Escort going as fast as it can, and more powerful than a 12-pound sledgehammer swung full force from overhead.
In addition to his success in the octagon, Ngannou has also gained attention for his charitable work, including building a gym in his hometown.
Francis Ngannou Family
Francis Ngannou was born into a poor family in Batie, Cameroon.
His father was a street fighter.
Due to his father’s violent reputation in Cameroon and his involvement with the law, Francis Ngannou’s parents divorced when he was only six years old.
Francis Ngannou in an interview with Joe Rogan said
“The fact was my dad was very violent, beating up my mom, beating us up. When my parents got divorced, I was six years old at the time, and I had to go to my aunt to live there. That’s where I found out about my dad’s reputation,”
Francis Ngannou’s mother was the backbone of his success.
After divorce from an abusive husband, Ngannou’s mother single-handedly raised Ngannou and all his siblings.
Francis loves his mother so much and credits his mother for all his accomplishments.
Francis expressed his love towards her mother on mother’s day through social media saying
“Happy Mother’s Day to this wonderful woman who has been through hell to raise a stubborn kid likes me, and scarified everything to see us happy.”
Recently, while returning to his hometown after winning the UFC world heavyweight title Francis honored his mom by placing the heavyweight title on his shoulder.
Later Francis shared an Instagram post saying
“Dream come true placing the belt on my Mom, Thank you MTN Cameroon for making this happen.”
Francis Ngannou Siblings
Francis was the third of five children. After his parents’ divorce, he was sent to live with his aunt, but after some time, Francis came back to live with his siblings and his mother.
Francis had three older brothers and a sister who often comforted him during his childhood days.
His older brother was a mechanic and supported the family’s needs since childhood.
After making his mark in the UFC, Francis bought his brother a truck, which made him the top man in the sand business.
Francis Ngannou Girlfriend
Currently, Francis Ngannou is most probably single and has no relationship engagement.
It is also possible that Francis might prefer not to reveal the identity of his girlfriend and keep his relationship status private.
Early Life and Education
Francis Ngannou’s earlier life is very inspiring. Francis’s dad was a street fighter who was violent and abusive towards his mom and family, beating all of his children.
Born into a poor family, Francis’s family couldn’t even afford notebooks and pens for him during his school days. He went to school without a proper uniform and shoes.
At the age of 10, Francis started working in the sand mine to support his family. The wages he received from the quarry helped his family to buy things in those days.
Digging sand in the sand mine at a very young age helped Francis to build a very strong physique. He became very strong by digging sand in the sand mine.
Francis Ngannou’s idol was Mike Tyson. One day, one of Francis’s friends showed him a YouTube clip of Mike Tyson. Watching the video, Francis became obsessed with boxing and dreamed of becoming a boxer.
Francis strongly believed that he could change his family’s curse by becoming a boxer.
Dreams couldn’t save Francis’s father. On November 4th, 2001, Francis’s father died after being sick for a very long time.
Francis was just 15 years old at that time and unable to contribute to the medical bills.
After two years, Francis’s mom got sick as well, and in fear of losing her too, Francis decided to take action on his dreams and decided to leave Africa.
Francis aimed to move to France, but he couldn’t go to the airport and take a plane to France.
So he used all the backdoor opportunities to get there. It took him 14 months and six failed attempts to move from Cameroon to France.
To move to France, Ngannou’s first step was to travel through the Sahara desert. The high temperature in the Sahara was the major threat to Francis Ngannou.
He traveled through a Toyota Tacoma with twenty-five others with a certain quantity of water because it takes up space.
During the travel, police officers used to strip him and search for money and seize it. To avoid this, Francis put his money in a plastic cover and swallowed it, finding it later.
During the travel, Francis drank dirty water and ate food found in the garbage. He said “I may drink this water and die –but if I don’t drink this water, I will die anyway. So I drank it.”
After traveling so many kilometers and facing many good and bad officers, Francis reached Morocco by crossing Nigeria, Niger, and Algeria.
But the suffering was not over yet. To move from Morocco to Spain he had two options: one was to cross the border of Ceuta or the other was to cross the border of Melilla.
Francis chose the border of Melilla as his destination. His idea was to get to the Spanish territory by crossing the border and calling the Red Cross, hoping to get the identity of a refugee.
The first time Francis tried crossing the border, his whole body was cut open by the barbed wire. In fear of losing blood and dying, he surrendered to the police, received treatment at the hospital, and returned to the Algerian desert.
Francis tried crossing the border of Melilla six more times and failed miserably.
After so many failed attempts, Francis chose to cross the border by water and selected the waters of Ceuta to reach the Spanish territory, but he kept failing.
After so many attempts, Francis reached Spanish waters and contacted the Red Cross. He spent two months in isolation in a Spanish prison cell and eventually received refugee status.
From Spain, he reached France without a train ticket or money. In France, he lived on the streets and in parking lots before making it to the UFC to become the World Heavyweight Champion.
